What We Love About Burberry By Christopher Bailey

Designer Christopher Bailey’s set departure from British luxury fashion house Burberry is the breaking news reported across all fashion media. His leaving, both shocking and regrettable, will mark the end of a 17 year long tenure.

Burberry has been one of our favourite brands, being a classical example of upholding the noble and prim way of English dressing. Helming a fashion house as such is no easy task, but Bailey has generally been applauded for bringing it to greater heights since his appointment.

Here, we recap some of the best looks, by Burberry under his creative direction, that we loved.

Electric, metallic colours was a distinct feature in the SS’13 collection, which was a display of Bailey’s take on British glamour. The house’s icon - the trench, is transformed in a new shade of metallic blue, giving it an edgier, contemporary look and reminisce of Hollywood glamour.

Pastel blue lace paired with a mint outerwear spells exactly like spring to us; what is not to love about it? It was refreshing to see a play on softer, pastel colours plus more feminine looks and a subtle touch of sexiness.

This statement aqua-green ombre suit certainly leaves us green with envy that we can’t help but wished it was not just for men. The SS15 collection is a myriad of colours, arguably not quite expected of the house but is certainly eye-catching.

Back to basics in black and white, yet this piece is anything but dull. The unique geometric pattern gives the trench an added sharpness and modernity. A splendid way to travel in comfort and style.

Inspired by the Elizabethan era and novel, Orlando: A Biography, this look though not quite typical of Burberry, is undeniably remarkable. The details of the intricate maze-like print and macramé on the cape has just won us over.

With the SS’17 collection inspired by British sculptor Henry Moore, it is no surprise that there would be more ‘artsy’ designs on the runway. Yet this beige dress with a white macramé cape is the perfect example of keeping the balance right while infusing artistic elements.
